Symbolism, fantasy,colour and detail are areas I like to pursue in my painting. I enjoy experimenting with various mediums, however oil paint has always been the one I prefer. I enjoy using glazes for visual texture and subtlety of tones. Glazes over gold leaf have some interesting qualities. My painting has been influenced by many artists, events in life and friends but mostly from a time I spent in Vienna in the 70's, where I was accepted into The Academy of Fine Art and studied portraiture. Here I came across "Phantasy Realism". A unique school of Austrian painters whose artwork is mystic, strange and surreal. I came across this movement in the cafe" Hawelka" in Vienna where I went often .This cafe is a must if you are ever in Vienna. Some small early paintings were hung there by Brauer, Hausner, Hutter and others, who exchanged them to for meals etc. while they were students at the Academy.

Ernst Fuchs, Hundertwasser and the above mentioned all exhibited in and around Vienna . I have some links to some of these artists in the links page. Their imagination , technical brilliance and visual texturing inspired me enormously and so does today. Ofcourse many influences have inspired since then.

Now I live and work in Somerset, painting commissions and my own work when able.
